Wooden Birds

These abstracted wooden birds are designed to feel playful and be reminiscent of wooden children’s toys.

Serial Planes
Painted MDF planes, cedar base with cork backing, walnut support block, threaded rod & nut spacers. 12″ x 12″ x 12″.
Piece using the transformation of a single shape to produce a form.
Coasters
Oak, assorted other woods, and wire axle. 4.5″ x 4.5″ x 0.5″ each.
The border in these coasters was made from scrap wood strips that were stacked and glued then crosscut to produce a striped pattern. The center circle rotates on an axle hidden in the center of the coaster and has a different nature-related sketch wood-burned into each side.
Wooden Spatula
Wooden spatula exploring form and ergonomics. Prototyped in foam, final in ash. approx. 12″ x 3″ x 2″.
Guitar
Walnut, ebony, nickel hardware, abalone inlays, standard telecaster electronics, and ABS pickguard. 15″ x 45″ x 2″.
Semi-hollow body electric guitar with a violet carved into the headstock. The guitar is built entirely from scratch, beginning with a 2′ x 2′ walnut slab, which I planed, shaped, and carved into the body of the guitar. The neck and fretboard were similarly hand made, including placing the frets, carving the headstock, and inlaying the fret markers.
