Guitar

I designed this guitar in Fusion 360. It combines aspects of many different guitars. I used the model to make laser cut templates for all of the the routed cavities and the outside shape.

Prepping the Wood
I started with rough mahogany and maple bords then jointed/planed them until they were square. To get the width required for the guitar body, they are then resawed and bookmatched.

After they dry, they are planed again, this time to the desired thickness. The basic shape is cut out.

Shaping the Body
I used a laser cut template made from a section view of my CAD model to route the inner sound cavities, as well as the electronics cavities.

The top plate is cut to approximate shape, and the maple leaf detailing is cut out and glued into place. I also do the detail on the back of the maple piece, which is a mahogany inlay.

I also routed the jack, and test fit the electronics with the pickguard template.
The top and bottom plates are glued. A routing template is used to get the outside shape, as well as to route the electronics, pickup, and neck cavities through the top plate. I route the tremolo bridge cavities separately to ensure all the measurements are correct.

Neck
The neck was made on a CNC router using VCarve.

Electronics & Hardware

(This is still an in progress project, as I need to get correct hardware for several attachments, which has been delayed by classwork.)
